Financial goals — saving for a house deposit, building an emergency fund, paying off a debt — work best when progress updates automatically. Linking a goal to a bank account means your balance becomes the progress figure, so you do not need to log it manually.
How to link an account
When adding or editing a goal, select a bank account from the account link field. Only bank accounts (not credit cards or investment accounts) can be linked to a goal directly.
Once linked, the current balance of that account is used as the progress value on the goal chart. The progress history follows the balance history of the account.
When to use it
Account linking works well for:
- Savings goals: link a dedicated savings account to a savings target so progress tracks your actual balance
- Debt paydown goals: link the account used to track a debt balance, set the direction to "decrease", and watch the balance fall toward zero
When to use manual logging instead
If your goal does not map cleanly to a single account balance — for example, a goal that tracks total contributions across multiple accounts, or a non-financial goal — use manual progress logging instead. Manual entries let you log any value at any point in time with an optional note.
