Daily Finances

See your bank balances, credit cards, investment accounts, transactions, and monthly spending in one place — updated as you go.

Daily Finances brings together every financial account in your household — bank accounts, credit cards, and investments — alongside your transactions and a summary of your spending this month.

What you'll see

  • Bank accounts: current balances for all your accounts, calculated from transactions or entered manually. Balances are masked by default — tap to reveal.
  • Credit cards: current balance and credit limit with a visual utilisation bar, plus an amber indicator if a balance has not been updated recently.
  • Investments: account values by type — ISA, pension, SIPP, and GIA — so you can see your investment position at a glance.
  • Transactions: this month's total spending compared to last month, with a breakdown by category and entity.

Transactions

Transactions are the individual records of money moving in or out of an account. Every time you mark a bill as paid, a transaction is created automatically. You can also log transactions manually for any spending or income that does not come from a bill.

Each transaction records:

  • Date and amount
  • Account it belongs to
  • Category
  • Merchant (where the money went)
  • Notes or reference
  • Assign tags

Transactions feed your account's calculated balance and drive the monthly spend comparison on the Daily Finances card.

Categories

Every transaction can be assigned a category and subcategory to organise your spending. Categories are shared across bills and transactions, so the same structure applies whether you are logging a recurring bill or a one-off purchase.

You can create custom categories and tags to match how you think about your money. Categories appear in the monthly spend breakdown on the Wealth Dashboard and in finance reports.

See Bills categories for more on how the category system works.

Merchants

The merchant is where a transaction took place — a shop, service, or payee. Recording the merchant gives you a richer transaction history and makes it easier to review spending by supplier over time.

Merchants are stored against each transaction and can be used to filter and search your transaction history. For recurring bills, the supplier name from the bill is carried through automatically when a payment transaction is created.

Receipts

Attach a receipt or proof of payment to any transaction by linking a document from your Google Drive. This is useful for expense tracking, warranty records, and high-value purchases where you want a permanent record alongside the transaction.

Receipts appear in the transaction detail view and are also accessible from your Documents section.

Expense reclaims

Mileage expense reclaims appear in Daily Finances alongside your other transactions. When a mileage claim is marked as paid against a vehicle, it shows up as a transaction in your account — so your balance and spending totals stay accurate.

You can see the full reclaim journey — from trip logged to payment received — on the Mileage Tracker tab of the vehicle it was claimed against.

Keeping it accurate

Daily Finances is only as useful as the data behind it. Use calculated balance mode to have balances derived from your transactions automatically, or update manually and use the staleness indicators to know when a refresh is due. All balances feed into your Net Worth automatically.
